Christmas TV

Just had a preview of the Christmas & New Year TV and it`s absolute pish unless you watch the soaps. I remember when Christmas TV was the highlight of the year. Now it`s rubbish.
I`m glad I have held back quite a few DVDs for viewing.

My mum loves her soaps, but she says even she gets fed up with them on over Christmas, especially when Eastenders does 3 shows in 1 day, and then the others have "special episodes".

i think Barry Norman few years ago commented on the decline of the Christmas Day big movie(back when he was on BBC1) he suggested several contributing factors. 1 being that BBC or ITV don`t want to spend big money on a film now as it has been on Sky movies a couple of years before so they don`t get the audience viewing figures they used to, so it`s a waste of money. Also DVDs are so affordable ppl would rather watch DVDs since they come out so quick these days after cinema release.

I think the only things on TV I know about I`ll watch will be Christmas specials of shows like Extras, Dr Who etc. I don`t know what the "big" movies are this year, but I`ll probably have already seen them if I`m interested in them.

Oh god....christmas soaps.....the horror....the horror....
100% guaranteed this will cause arguments in our house.
As inevitable as my mother`s soup giving me the runs.

Precisely why Christmas TV is s*** and there are no decent premiers anymore.

The audience is so fragmented and people are so busy playing with new stuff, it isnt financially viable to spend significant money on Christmas programming.

It generally goes into one or two `marquee` shows in the evening and thats it.

I know I write this every year, but it hasnt stopped being true yet.

And also the reason why we get a depressing treble bill of misery on christmas day.

Soaps are cheap and they guarantee a moderate return. If you stuck a film on rather than eastenders, it wouldnt get half the viewing figures, despite being more expensive.

Basically, its mens fault for having too many toys and womens fault for watching too many soaps.

But, in the context of this thread, that`s like asking "can`t my wife just stop watching soaps"... :( ;)

Me and the wife only really row about two things.
Money and f***ing soaps. >:( >:( >:(

I am praying for something somewhat decent. but to be honest I will watch anything come christmas day. this year its just me, my mum and dad and my nan, no one gets on with anyone else, and it`ll be hard work. like very hard work....

i`ll watch the vicar of dibley if it means not playing the guess the intro music quiz my mum has broken out every xmas for the last 16 years..

It`s such a happy time of year, isn`t it?
You only have to look at all the happy, happy faces on any christmas high street.
I always hope for a cold sore, so I have an excuse not to kiss people.

Never mind, office christmas do this Saturday ( yes, already...)
Hopefully, I`ll pump the office bike so hard she`ll have `OTIS` imprinted on her posterior for posterity.
