First reactions, can`t believe The Wrestler has been missed for best film or best director.
Judging by the competition for best actor I`d fancy Rourke.
Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a surprise in that it`s in for best film. I liked it but think there`s a few other films that should be in instead.
Also Downey Jr in for best supporting actor for Tropic Thunder is a bit of a shock aswell. Ledger did get the nod in the end though.

RE: Oscars 2009 nominations are in
Feel sorry for the chaps in the best supportng actor category - that one`s a given. This IS Hollywood, after all.
Sadly, I`ve hardly seen any of the films on offer, but Wall-E should walk best animated and original song (Bolt and Panda, while entertaining, were nothing short of ordinary in comparison)
I also hope Marisa gets the gong for best supporting actress, then turns to the camera and shouts "NOW SHUT THE F*** UP ABOUT MY COUSIN VINNY!!"

Just watched Doubt, good film with some very good performances.
Have to ask (and think this may have been brought up last year) what is the minimum screen time for a Best Supporting Actress nomination.
I can only assume that Viola Davis is the black woman (best description without giving any plot info for people who haven`t seen).
Now she must be on screen for about 6/7mins absolute tops, although she is really good.
Seymour Hoffman is really good as usual and is a worthy contender to the Heathafon that is gathering pace.

Don`t forget Dame Judi Dench in Shakespeare In Love, Best Supporting Actress winner for 8 minutes of screentime.
And, having just checked that out on IMDB, I found out that:
Quote:
The shortest ever performance was by Beatrice Straight in Network (1976), as she appeared in only six minutes of the film.

Viola Davis got a best supporting actor nom? She`s in an extended cameo! Crazy. If she wins that over Amy Adams, it`s a crime.

I still say that Ledger is only in there cause hes dead and not because of his performance, if i had my way id give the nod to RDJ for Tropic Thunder, make a change from all the serious movies winning

Hugh Jackman to Do Oscars Drunk and Nude
Quote:
Sunday night`s Oscars host, Hugh Jackman, is sure to shake things up. For one thing, he`s not a professional comedian like most previous hosts. For another, he tells CNN that he plans to do the entire show naked and inebriated.
