Bezzawezza (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 8th September 2010, 10:33

Paid £360 last year for my car insurance with Elephant. Not changed the car, no claims or convictions since. Same drivers etc and they now want £533 this year!!!
No thanks, now where is that meerkat......

Insurance has gone up across the board, I don`t think you will find a quote that is cheaper than what you paid last year even with an extra years no claims. I think on average it is about 20% higher than last year.

I didnt expect it to be cheaper. I did expect it to be less than nearly £200 increase though for no reason whatsoever.

Still doesn`t beat my £76 grand quote :D
(btw, ended up paying £396 which is surprisingly better than even the £550 the same company quoted 6 months previous!)

One thing to take into account if your paying monthly is how much interest is being charged.

We have had both cars insured with Swift Cover for the last few years, using the price comparison sites they are not the cheapest, but offer interest free if you pay monthly.

A recent quote for our Mini Copper S Convertible brought Bulldog up as the cheapest, think it was just under £300 for the year but they were charging 45% APR plus had a start and end charge :o

The repayments were a few pence over £50 / month, total for the 12 months over £600.00

Swifts more exensive policy is only costing us just £30 / month.

All the best

Gerald.

I used a few price comparison sites, More Than came up the cheapest for me. Contacting them directly saved me a bit more on top.

If you are willing to go 3rd party you can often save a fair bit that way. However how much you save depends on the insurer, sometimes it`s £20, with others it can be £100>.

Yeh, I got a shock with my MORETHAN car insurance this month, as it was up £80 for the year for no reason. I was not going to accept that.

I went onto confused.com got better quotes, including a morethan quote for identical insurance, and then got back onto MORETHAN`s callcentre.

They said that the quote on confused.com was for first time buyers to their company and was a special low price, not availabe for loyal customer who had been with them for years, Grrrh !

Anyway manged to get them down £60 so it was then £20 up on last year, so took it at that, rather than all the hastle of changing insurers and getting NCB certificate transfered.

Unfortunately, I will now get in-inidated by phonecalls from all the other insurance comp[anies quoted via confused.com, and will have to tell them I have picked an insurance, But it was worth it :D

You have to go through this bartering proccess every year now to keep the car insurance down.

Same goes for all insurances ;)
