Basically Royal mail want to leave your post with a neighbour if you are not in and your mail does not fit through your letterbox.

I think I`ll be writing to Postcomm who are seeking opinions from interested parties in their public consultation.
We`d never have got our post unopened if at all some of the places we`ve lived previously...I think its completely wrong to deliver any item of mail to a neighbour without prior consent, and we certainly should have the option to opt out.
Thanks for bringing it up though...might not have noticed otherwise!

Because there`s always somebody in, we`re the local mail drop for most of the neighbours already. All the courier services, including RM and the local pharmacy drop things off with us if folk are out at work.
If RM had any sense they`d set up some kind of scheme for designated post recipients (maybe give them free stamps at Christmas as a reward). Not that it would occur to Crozier, who`s just a frickin` ex-footballer and whose idea of delivering parcels to people who are out is probably to drop-kick them through the kitchen window.

I have had a parcel (book from Amazon) delivered through the living room window within the last month actually! I found it on the sofa.
I`m usually in, so again, I am the local drop off point for no end of stuff for my surrounding neighbours, and i don`t mind at all.
The good thing is, because we are in a rural area, we know our postman and the regular couriers, and they know who is happy to have stuff left with people or in special places, so we`re all happy.
But obviously I can see this being a major issue in urban areas, and really think the postal bosses are out of touch if they think this is a viable option.
Whatever happened to the old idea that your postman was not allowed to leave your letters anywhere without delivering it through your door or into your hand, as it remains the property of the queen until delivered safely. They could once have faced imprisonment for delivering to the wrong address without your permission for this very reason. It constitutes as a form of theft, surely?

On one side of us is a house used to house, well, i dont know. But the people seem to change on a regular basis. Strangly, they all have the habbit of dumping their crap on our front and throwing their fag ends in to our back garden. (they do get them back by the way) If I had any post go there I`m quite sure I would never see it again.

They do that for us (but mostly our neighbours) anyway! Not just the post office either, but then we trust our neighbours, heh.

We usually get a bit of paper saying `your package is in your green wheelie bin`.
Seems to be standard practice down our way by royal mail if it does not fit through the letter box, and it works, as long as you remember to retrieve it before bin collection day
