i`m currently insured through swinton and pay just over £400 (fully comp)
a year for a 1.8 petrol engined picasso.

just had my renewal quote through...

they offer two quotes, the first was for £705 @ £61 per month, the second
quote was £4600 @ £440 a month!!!! yeah right... i`m really going to pay
more for my car insurance per month than i do my mortgage >:(

anyhows... just gone through confused.com and managed to get it down to
£348 per year. not too bad at all. :)

Hope you quidco/other cashback site`d it too.
Swinton I`ve found good for an initial policy then stupid for renewals.

I`m £700 this year for the focus AND the Zaffy on an Admiral Multicar... bit silly though, Zaf has 9 years NCB protected, Focus has 2 years unprotected but I get the NCB for both...?

Obviously if the Focus gets dinged I`d just lose the policy for that and go solely on the Zaffy!

I have used Swiftcover... they have been the cheapest on both cars, and buildings & contents, literally by hundreds of pounds!

Most insurances give you a good initial quote for the first year, then put it through the roof, the next.

Hence, have to change insurances each year via internet comparison sites.

Just a fact of life now, to keep those premiums down.

Confused.com and go compare both came in with their lowest quote at just over £1000 for me this year!

Compare the market managed to get it down to £590, which is a bargain I suppose, but not when you consider I drive an R reg, 1.3 suzuki swift.  I`ve never claimed, but my insurance is now double what it was when I first started driving and I have a smaller car...I suppose its my own fault coz I`ve been a named driver on my ex`s policy for years so have no no claims.  Zurich decided to "reward my experience based on my named driver status" through compare the market and QuoteA though :)

Having just read your post Mark, it reminded me...it was £30 cheaper for the year to go fully comp than it was to go thrid party fire and theft.  That makes loads of sense to me :/

It seems to me insurance companies are going about this all the wrong way.
We all know their `ploy` is to rely on lazy people renewing whatever the cost.
But, these days, there must surely only be a small proportion rolling over and doing this.
So the insurance companies must be losing repeat business hand over fist.
All battling instead to get new business.
More sensible second-year pricing will let them keep business instead of constantly chasing new.

I`m pretty sure none of them are that stupid, they must have figures of how many they lose each year, there has to still be loads who do it to make that approach worthwhile. You don`t really hear much about them making any losses do you. :/
