can anyone translate chinese into english please?
might be a long shot but i thought i would ask. a friend has a picture, well its painted i think. they had it done many years ago whilst in China, i think its a proverb/saying type thing, basically just letters/writing, in Chinese. know we have a friend who is Chinese but they were not around tonight, and wont be here for a few weeks. so in the meantime i said i would see if i could get it translated, so i took a photograph of it which i will upload if anyone can, or if anyone can direct me somewhere.
cheers.

I might be able to give it a go (with the help of a chinese dictionary). Very, very rusty since they cancelled my chinese evening classes (you`d think that mandarin would be more popular these days).
If you want to give it a go yourself, you can actually draw the characters and get a translation here: nciku.com although it`s quite tricky if you`re a complete beginner with chinese characters.

many thanks. i will put a link to the flickr page i have uploaded it to, i hope thats ok, i seem to remember doing something similar a while ago, if this is wrong i am sorry. there are two pictures. one has a few columns of text the other shows the main words in the picture. anything you could do would be very useful. had to edit the link as the @N07/ is not showing as part of the link but it is in the full link. if the link doesn`t work just type in cirdan2 in flickr search under people. cheers.

I had someone take a look, but apparently the cursive style is actually obscuring some of the script. Parts of the larger text is `xxx three xxx God (or `up`)`. Chinese text varies massively from english as surrounding words can change the context of an individual character. Japanese is much easier

Yeah it`s difficult because it`s painted characters and not nice crisp typed text (like I`m used to). It`s also traditional rather than simplified (I only learned simplified). The only word I got instantly was three (san). To top it all I can`t get chinese characters to appear on my computer which is making dictionary look-up impossible...
nciku.com will help translate phrases as long as you can identify the individual characters.

I think it's "Arsenal three goals up", I bet if you date the picture it'll be from a classic London derby.

I work with a Catonese guy who say sthe side part looks like artistic scribbling and the best he can make of the main peace is 'to go for a mental journey to the three valleys'
I hope that helps a bit.

thats really good of you. i will tell them the main translation. they got it done whilst on a cruise down the Yangtze River so a journey etc sounds as plausible as anything. thats great. cheers
