Anyone good with Final Electric Statements?

dusty321 (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 2nd June 2013, 17:58

Asked elsewhere but got zip, so I`ll try this here.

It`s goes something like this. On the 22/04/2013 I moved from Swalec to BG for electric. On the 22/04/2013 Swalec gave BG a meter reading of 1598 as an `actual` reading as per my final statement dated 07/05/2013. Just called them up for my refund and the tune has changed Swalec are now saying that it was a wrong reading and that the correct reading as of 22/04/2013 is 2221 and that no refund is owed, I shouldn`t have had the statement and that I should `forget` it  Been on chat twice asking questions and have answered nothing, just saying they `don`t send statements for prepay customers` which is odd as my statement says Equipower Standard (KEY METER)

Can anyone make sense of the statement below. I`ve been looking at it all morning to the point where nothing is making any sense.

Much thanks.

Well from the units used, previous credit on the account & you total payments I make it that you should be £143.66 in credit.

Yup, agree with Dkuk, they owe you £143.66.

I get statements every now and then on a prepay meter, and so does mum.

Thanks for the post you 2!

Will have to pursue this one, they are adamant they own nothing

Good luck, it seems impossible to get anywhere when complaining to electricity companies.

Mum has had an ongoing row with Edf for a couple of years now as they keep trying to bill her even though she has a prepayment meter, every year they decide on a new random bill amount.  When she complains, they tell her the meter is installed incorrectly and she is being charged the wrong rates, yet refuse to come and change it :/

EDF do the electricity here, and the day we moved in I ordered a prepayment meter which they fitted 20 days later...I`ve just recieved a bill for £1195.16 for electricity for those 20 days! After nearly an hour on the phone, they reduced it to £177 and expect me to pay that...since the prepayment meter was fitted 29 days ago, I`ve only used £46 worth :/ According to the complaints team there may have been an error with the final meter readings taken by the engineer and they need to investigate which could take some time.

Did you take a reading when you switched?

What is your reading now? If it`s less than 2221 (and I`d be surprised if it isn`t, that`s a hell of a lot of electricity to go through in 2 months) then obviously their new reading is well out...!

Fight it out... feel free to PM me with any questions, I`m erm, kinda clued up with Swalec

Hey miikey, much thanks!

I think their argument rests on the fact that although the final statement says 1598 `actual reading` as of the 22nd it was in fact 2221. What I don`t understand is if they knew the reading was 2221 on the 22nd via the meter key why did they give a reading to BG for 1598?

Sent a letter yesterday asking for clarification, let`s see what they say. Boggles my noodle!

In the famous words of Arnie.......

Ah... if the reading really was 2221 then I guess they`ve got you over a barrel.

I don`t understand though how the energy companies (not Swalec specifically, they`re all the same, I had it with Powergen a few years back) get it so wrong with meter keys... pre-paid should be pre-paid, that`s the whole point, isn`t it? It shouldn`t be possible to run up a debt on those meters.
