How much tax do you pay on DVDs
I want to order some dvds from an american site but if the total comes to more than £18 i will have to pay tax. Does anyone know how much in a % you need to pay, hope someone can help.. thanks.
Do you know anyone in the US, as you can have them sent over as Gifts with NO tax. I met a guy 2 years ago over the internet & we send CDs & DVDs to each other all the time. No problem.

I heard that if something is over £36, then they may put import tax on it, but I dont think you will get it if u order a dvd they will classify it as a gift....
RE: How much tax do you pay on DVDs
UK Duty Free Limit is £18.
For DVDs over £18 they could get taxed, current rate:
3.5% Import Duty
17.5% VAT
£3.95 Consignia "Admin" Fee (or upto £10 for a courier)
The Gift limit is £36 but has special T&C`s and it is regulated, if you use it to much you will be flagged on customs tracking system which could lead to your packages being targetted for inspection and drop the limit back down to £18.
Customs only check a small percentage of packages (normally suspisious ones, ie. big packages with low marked value on the customs declaration). They sometimes target packages from people/companies who have misdeclared packages in the past.
Best to use companies that have customs avoidance methods (some legal, others not so legal). (not guarenteed but charges are very rare)
What company are you ordering from ?
I ordered the batman legacy boxset from ezydvd for about AU$73 about £28 and got taxed £8 for it
