Sickening. 🤮
Not trying to defend in any way whatsoever here but when many people see 'making indecent images' many may misunderstand what this actually means - it doesn't mean in the practical sense of making them and 'being there'. The act of sharing/viewing them 'makes' the images locally.
Still, if people didn't want to see them they wouldn't be made in the first place. 😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬

Huw Edwards, once the BBC's most senior news presenter, has pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

Police later revealed the man who sent the images to Edwards was a convicted paedophile.

The court was earlier told that, on 2 February 2021, the other manasked whether what he was sending was too young, to which Edwards asked him not to send any underage images.
there's more explanation as well as to what "making" means

part of it

"Making" indecent images can have a wide legal definition, and covers more than simply taking or filming the original picture or clip.

sort of related, in my feed the other day there was someone talking about the Lost Prophets singer who is in jail for comitting sexual assault on infants :( Interestingly he's been beaten up numerous times, and is massively in debt due to the protection money he's had to pay! Guess he's not paying enough, I'd imagine it's impossible to have enough to pay protection when you're inside for what he did. Also got into more trouble (inside and outside) for having a mobile phone while inside. I remember an interview with his ex band mates, they were asked if they had any idea, one replied something like "I have kids, if I had known, I'd be the one doing time, not him"

Saving a picture to your PC or device creates a copy, thereby 'making' or 'creating' the image, but that's a very wooly way to define the process. However, that definition to the layman does indeed make it sound that any illegal photo or video was taken by the accused themselves. It's a fairly recent term and seems to have been generated to throw as much crap as possible at these people to bump up the sentences.

Personally, the term 'saved indecent images to personal device' holds as much weight, but doesn't attract as much public vitriol.

"Lost Prophets"

Last Summer was genuinely one of my favourite tracks of theirs, ever. haven't listened to it since. I did, however hear it being played in my local GAME store a few years ago. I gave the somewhat ignorant staff a quick update on current events and advised them they might want to change the music to something less actionable

So I'm a member of a certain sci-fi fan forum, and some years ago, it went through a period where it was 'attacked' by a bad actor. This person would change IP addresses and sign up again after each permaban as a different user, just to carpet bomb threads with snuff imagery. Naturally, just by clicking on a forum thread, any user would wind up with those images in their browser cache. They eventually got bored and moved on. Point being, everyone has clicked on something they subsequently regretted. That is the nature of the internet.

I hate the definition of that particular crime. If they'd just modify it, "making images with intent" or something like that, I'd feel more comfortable that the rozzers won't get it in their head to go on a mass fishing expedition, and the next day half a million people are arrested.

Come to think of it, I'm surprised that no ransomware merchants have used this angle of attack. Give us half a bitcoin and we'll delete that undeletable image we put on your machine. Otherwise we'll tell plod.

So the BBC have started de-Savilling, erasing history, pulling Huw Edwards from their archives accessible to the public. Given how many significant historic events he reported on, including the Queen’s death, that’s going to be a big problem.

On the other hand, they have pulled the worst modern era Doctor Who episode from iPlayer, the one where the Doctor lights the flame at the 2012 Olympics. He had a cameo in that. I wonder if they’ll edit in someone else.
