Anyone heard the new Tom Waits albums?
Been waiting for years for a new album, then two come along at once.....
Anyone heard them yet?
RE: Anyone heard the new Tom Waits albums?
Hiya,
Heard one track yesterday, sounded excellent. Tuneful, but still had his `distinctive` voice.
Didn`t realise there was two albums though. Do you have anymore information ?
Neil.

TOM WHO ? ? ?

Neilw - two albums, called Blood Money and Alice - one apparently more "old style", the other more post swordfishtrombones.
Saw the discs at CDWow - compared the track listings with Amazon UK, and it seems that one of them has an extra track at CDWow, though it may just be an oversight at Amazon. Suprising, as it`s usually CDwow that has fewer tracks.
There was an interview with him in the saturday Times last weekend (parents were down - that`s my excuse). Also an interview with Neil Young in the saturday Guardian - good weekend!
Also amazed to see they`re up in CDwow`s top 20!

I think I`ll be investing in both of those Cd`s
Tom Waits is one of those rare artists whose music is listenable time after time, not matter which album. He songs are humourous, and despite is `voice`, they are very emotional/romantic too.
Sorry to bore people, but he is quite unique.
Unfortunately, he`s probably more widely known for his appearance in Bram Stokers Dracula, as the strange man in the cage.
He also wrote Rod Stewarts Hit `Downtown Train`, but his version was superior (in my opinion)
Neil.

His early stuff is a bit more mainstream, I have most of his later albums but having listened to one of his early ones i may give the rest a miss even though theres only about three i haven`t got.
He also wrote the song Heartattack and Vine that was was used in the jeans advert with the new orleans style funeral march down a town street but that was performed by Screaming Jay Hawkins and no one asked Tom Waits who then took his record company or agent to court over it. I think he`s also taken legal action over an advert using someone picked to sound like him. Recently he had to find 4 emus to appear in a video after the original 4 were eaten overnight by some hungry coyotes :)
