Just bought the Alba DVD 108 from Argos for £69.99. Very nice looking and slim.

I can confirm that it will play Region 1 and 2 discs as I tried a selection last night! So I believe it is a multi-region out of the box. I`m not sure about macrovision.

I also found that it would not play an SVCD disc, saying something like "incorrect format", then ejected the disc. Does anyone know a hack to enable this yet?

To play a vcd.......Load Disc Press "Menu" then press and hold "Left Arrow Key".

Another way is as soon as the drawer is closed press GoTo loads of times really really fast then press 1 then enter/play.

Hi, Could you please try recording onto VHS to see if the Macrovision is disabled on this player as well.

or you can press and hold menu then press and hold 1.You need to hold them both until s/vcd comes up on screen or the disc ejects.It takes a bit of practice to get the timing right(i tried 5/6 times b4 it worked.Don`t know how long the buttons on the remote will last keep doing this though!!

Macrovision isn`t disabled, tried to copy a DVD just to see if it would work but it didn`t.

i am looking at buying the alba 108, did you have to input a hack at all in order to play region 1 dvd`s..... thanks in anticipation(NALOHOCD[at]MOC.LIAMTOH)

Multi-region straight out of the box. No hacks required. Very nice NTSC and PAL playback, not at all jittery or pixellated like some `cheap` players I`ve seen.

ive got the alba 108 dvd player and im very impressed with the picture and sound from such a low cost player. its got a welth of inputs and outputs on the back to. even a optical digtal output witch some more expensive players dont have. below is some information ive found out about it. and also what media its able to play and how to get it to play it with minamial hassile

the player will play dvd disks (pal and ntsc) mp3 (cd-r/cd-rw) music cd`s and bought vcd`s. with no hacking or tricks.

to play vcd`s/svcd`s burnt onto either cd-r or cd-rw.. jst before the player starts to spin up the disk press the "goto" button a few times. utill vcd or svcd pops up in the top lefthand corner. then it should play jst fine... the player know`s it is playing svcd or vcd so why this has tryed to have been blocked, i dont know.

to make the player except disks from all regiens.. press the pal/ntsc button, then press menu, then press 0. i have only tryed a regien 4 disk in my player. but theres no reson why it shouldnt work for all the other regiens as well :-)

the player will quite happyly let you record on to vhs from it, thou a standerd scart lead. with no hack needed, witch was a nice surprise.

all in all a VERY GOOD dvd player witch will play.. anything really, has nice slim-line looks (only 4.5cm high) and for 69.99 from the argos catalog. proberly the best low price dvd player out there. 10 out of 10
