I need some advice, please.

I wanna buy a DVD player, I`m not too arsed about playing R1 discs but I need to the option to turn off MACRO, this is very important as I have an old TV with no scart socket and I may want to record some films to video tape.

Can I turn off MACRO on the following players using just the remote ? And how do you rate them out of 10 for performance ?

SAMSUNG 709
SAMSUNG 511
THOMSON DTH 3300
THOMSON DTH 4200
AIWA 370

or

Could you recommend a DVD player which you can turn off MACRO ?

Any help would be cool.

The only one that can DEFINITELY be easily macro off is the 709, but it requires an R1 disc to do it.

Player quality? Well, I`ve had two previously, and now I have an Aiwa 370.
Judge that for yourself.

For the others, just get an inline decoder, at approx £45, then it doesn`t matter if you change the player, you`ll always have macro disable.

You can certainly disable Macrovision on a 709 via the remote, and it`s an excellent player to boot.

The Thomson 3300 is just a Samsung 709 in a different casing, so the same applies.

Macrovision can`t be disabled on the 511 or Thomson 4200 - you`d need an external box for this. Not sure about the Aiwa.

Oh, and you don`t need a R1 disc to disable Macrovision on the 709. Just apply the standard hack and select Auto mode (9).
