Anyone know what needs to be done to play VCDs on PS1?

on the original playstation (grey slab edition) you could buy a 3rd party adapter that plugged into the expansion port but the new PSone`s and last production grey originals don`t have such a port so I don`t think there is anyway to convert the hardware to play VCD`s. there are not any hacks ether...

I`ve seen a different one before at a computer fair up in central london, playback was damn good VCD wise on that one...
