Hack needed for CAT HTC-2002 home theatre center

mufflick (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 28th December 2002, 19:56

Hi - can anyone help with a region / macro hack for the CAT HTC-2002 home theatre system recently sold in the Lidl supermarkets. The dvd player has a built in RDS radio tuner and comes with subwoofer and five speakers.
It is made by a company called Cat Electric Sound (Shanghai) Co.Ltd., and is part of a German (I think) company called Logicom Group.
Does anyone know if this machine shares a common manufacturer with any other machines that have already been hacked and placed on this site?
Any help or information, and especially a hack, for this machine would be gratefully appreciated!
Many thanks.

I bought one of those too. I have looked everywhere but there is nothing anywhere near that price with all the speakers and a radio.

I had a scary moment when I unpacked it as there was no mention of VCDs anywhere in the documentation (although the LIDL leaflet said it would play them) but when I tried I found it would play VCD & SVCD -and play them well.

I`m afraid I don`t know how to hack it but I have found reviews in German of other Cat players stating they are multiregion. I have emailed the company to ask them.

Sorry this isn`t much help but at least it brings the message back to the top to increase the chance of a useful reply.

I got one of these systems as a present for Xmas. As far as I can tell it plays R1 DVD`s without any problems. I`ve tried it with both R1 & R2 discs and I haven`t had any problems. I didn`t need to enter any codes or anything like that. As for other regions, I have no idea if they work on it. It also seems to play VCD`s without any problems as well. Don`t know if this is any help to any of you guys. One problem I am having with it is that it tends to crackle a lot on some of the Sky channels I have running through it. Anyone any ideas?

I got the same unit here in Greece. I tried a R1 dvd and it worked fine. It didn`t show any messages on screen informing me that I have XX region changes left. I assume it is a region free dvd player, even though on the back it has the R2 logo.

I emailed the company (the email on their website) asking about it, but it has been now about two weeks that they haven`t replied.

If anyone ever finds any information on this unit, please if it is no problem, email me with the info. (77jaj[at]rg.liameerf)

Today in ASDA I spotted a Bush DVD 2004 with an identical remote control and a Schneider DVD 857 which looked to have been built from the same parts bin.

I will try the hacks for those later on when the kids are out of the way.

Hi - we had some problems too whith this machine. On the back of it was printed region-code 2 but it didn´t play code-2 dvd´s, damn.

So I did some research and here´s the hack:

1. press "open/close"

2. press "8"

3. press "4"

4. press "2"

5. press "1"

at that moment you should be in the hidden menu. Took me two times to get there.
now you are abel to change the regions by pressing "enter". I think "9" is for all regions.
it worked perfectly on my dvd.

have fun

Found this on the net.... Works on my CAT DVA 2050 ....

Turn the player on
Open the tray
Punch 0815 + regioncode 0
Close the tray

This will make the player multi-region..

Found this here : http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=CAT+DV-933

Same sequence as for the DV933

Regards
Chris
