Page 1 of easy question?

If the label on the back of my dvd player says its region 1 only, does this mean i cannot put it the region hack code? my model is
SAMSUNG DVD-V5000 (dvd/vcr combo) ive tried all of the hacks out there and cant get the damn language screen to come up!!!

Unfortunately, if your 5000 is a R1 (American) version, then there`s no way you`ll be able to get that code to work. Beginning with the DVD-511, Samsung took the hack codes out of their American firmware versions, for whatever reason (DMCA, probably). The only way you`ll be able to use it is if you exchange the American firmware for a European (or other non-American) firmware version.

So then, how would i go about getting the firmware for my dvd player so i can use these codes? is there a website? also, how is this firmware installed?? thanks

I just purchased a used samsung 511/Xaa mfg date 09/2000. serial number 610n900156n.

This is a USA / Region 1 player. I want to watch region 3 dvd`s.

after powering-on the machine,

1.) I cold started the machine
2.) I selected 1 (English) from the language menu
3.) I pressed repeat on the remote
4.) I entered 29334 (region 1) - also tried 38767

Region does not appear on the screen.

Can I select the region on this machine? What machine would suggest I purchase in the U.S. so that I can watch region 3 dvd`s?

My son is 1/2 Chinese and we can good Mandarin Dvd`s like Finding Nemo so he can listen in Chinese while watching a familiar movie.

I´ve also the SAMSUNG 511, it´s purchased in Spain, is not American. I follow all the steps on this forum, but I cannot found the solution.

1.) I cold started the machine
2.) I selected 4 (Spanish) from the language menu
3.) I pressed repeat on the remote, but nothing appear on screen neither pressing both repeat buttons at same time or pressing subtitle button.

I need help !!!
