Wharfedale 750S - Hack appears not to work

Anouska (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 25th December 2000, 22:59

I have tried both the hacks for the 750S (the zoom, a-b, up, left, down, right and the step, prev, next) and I get nothing. I am expecting "region free" to flash up on the display but it does not.

Could I be doing anything wrong. I have made sure that my remote sensor is not blocked.

The player was an xmas pressie and is probably one of the later models. Anybody know of any problems?

Many Thanks.

Try the "later batches" hack ... something like prev/next play step ... but that`s from an old memory.

Check the Region hack info pages on this sight.

Sounds like you`ve got one of the later 750Ss

Steve,

Dont buy the Wharfedale 750s. I had problems with my original 750, took it back to Tescos and swapped it for a new 750s in Nov, hacked it on to multi-region and i still had lots of problems with it ( well documented on various dvd sites ). Region 2 will play fine, but region 1 stuff is not very good eg. Toy Story 2 region 1 has sound problems, other region 1 stuff was playing too slowly ( like slow motion etc). Anyhow, the 750s has met with a grizzly end and i now have an Aiwa 370 and it rocks in a big way ( better picture, better sound, but most importantly it plays ALL my
dvds perfectly + it was only £20 more from Comet.
Do yourself a BIG favour and get the Aiwa, most of the guys on this site
will back me up on this one.

No problems with my 750S. Plays all my region 1 & 2 discs (all 150) without a problem. Played the whole of Toy Story Box Set R1 had no probs. X-Men fine too. Picture as good as a Panasonic.

Michael.

Strange....

Hi Grinder - only just picked up your post, so missed th msg

Picked up 750S on Sat evening....hacked(no problems) - plays all R1`s I`ve got (with no problems)....did a comparison of MANY DVD`s for one month pre ordering, and guess what......the Wharfedale is extemely well value engineered - with some neat cct implementations and harware (vanishingly low jitter / high s/n ratio etc etc (I`m in the AV business and have been for 15+ yrs).

Glad you`re aiwa is working well, (if I remember they cut their teath on fine sounding tape decks but the rest of the kit was average) and thanks for the intentions, but it appears that life is treating me well ! -see you around

I just got the Warfie yesterday (30th Dec). Used the hack - Disc draw open with disc in tray, press 0,7,5,0,# where (# ) is the region you want to play. then press play.

Works a treat :) and no more watchin films cramped up in front of my PC

try this site for warfie fax and tips - http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/wharfedale.html

happy new year 2 all :)

The region 1 "slo-mo" is probably that you haven`t changed your SETUP option from PAL to AUTO. When doing this, be sure to press ENTER once you changed the selection with the arrow keys, else it doesn`t take. After that, I`ve had no problem with region 1 discs (which had the symptom you described until i did).

Grinder,

I`d re-iterate what cab_guy and others have said, looks like the problems you had were you`re setup was wrong, and therefore unfair to `dis` what is a really good value player with very few problems.

I`ve had my 3rd generation 750s for about 3 months now, and have over 30 R1 titles including disks such as T2 UE, Independence day, Toy Story/Toy Story 2, The Patriot and Pitch Black to name but a few and have seen absolutely no problems with any of them.

I would happily recommend the player to anyone wanting a budget player that offered good value whilst maintaing good levels of playback quality.

Cheers

Chris
