Will I have any grief with Hitachi 305 remote hack??

the_godfather (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 2nd February 2001, 15:03

I have just ordered a remote control from dvdlibrary.co.uk who assure me that by pressing two buttons my Hitachi 305 will be multi region and RCE compliant. Its cost me £25.00 and will hopefully arrive next week.

Do any of u Hitachi guru`s expect me to have any difficulty reading any R1 dvds and therefore can I start to hammer my credit card and purchase films at will? I couldn`t resist to buy X-Men and have ordered that already, but should I wait till the remote arrives? I know it sounds stupid but I`ve gone DVD crazzzzzy!!!!!

For £25.00, I sincerely hope you got a money-back guarantee :-)

Many versions of the 305 firmware (4.02 for example) will not work with the Samsung "own remote" hack. I assume Godfather tried this hack already.

Personally I`d get the firmware changed to a hackable version rather than faff about with a third-party remote, but some people prefer to leave the guarantee intact...

Remote arrived this morning and the instructions see to work. I pressed the buttons and th word ADJUST appeared and the tray opened up.

Unfortunately my first Region 1 DVD has yet to arrive from DVD BoxOffice but can I presume that if I`ve got this far then it will work???

I`ve a Hitachi 305 too, and the hack I found on this site doesn`t work at all.

I have two questions:

1) Is this the remote control that works: http://www.dvdlibrary.co.uk/r-mod.htm?

2) how can I know the firmware version of the my player?

Thanks
Jeremi.

You can check the firmware by opening your player and looking at the EPROM chip at the back right corner. It has a label on it which will say something like:

DV-P305E
VER 4.05 <---- This is the firmware version!
SD.2000.09.04

The older firmware versions for the 305 (e.g. 4.02 and 4.03) don`t have the hack. You may be able to use a 511/611 firmware instead, see my site for details:
