Hacked Philips DVDR-75 plays Black and White - Help!!!

tew-piero (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 4th February 2004, 12:30

I have hacked my Philips DVDR-75 and when I play region 1 it plays in black and white. Don`t think my T.V is NTSC compatible so is there a scart lead I can buy that will help or does anyone have any help info??

Cheers

Unforunatley a different lead wont`t make a difference. If your VCR is NTSC you could connect your DVD throught that and it should sort out the problem. Failing that it`s probably going to need a different TV.
:(

Hey, I posted a full answer to this yesterday.
Where`s it gone?!!

Two things possibly:
1. Could be S-video settings - either on player or TV
2. More likely you need NTSC compatable TV. You could try changing DVD settings to PAL 60 - if it has it.

Nice1 - I have no idea where the thread went. Looked for it yesterday and couldn`t find it so put a new one on. What was your answer???

Much longer than the one I posted above but essentially the same answer.

Just replying to my own problem for those who care. I`ve finally managed to hack the player without a 25 play lock and managed to sort out the black and white picture problem. It was all down to switching my scarts round and now I`m happy! Great stuff! Saved mefolking out for a new T.V! :D

I`ve got a similar problem. I`m in Australia (region4) and trying to copy some NTSC laser Discs using the Philips DVDR-75. I get a flickering B&W image and an error message that says "wrong type (PAL)", and prevents me from recording. Could you help with a couple of answers

1) What was the original hack you used to make the player "multi-region"?
2) Did that work for recording compatability as well.?

Appreciate your time for an answer.

Regards

Greg

Tell you what, i`ve got a similar problem and maybe we can help eachother out. I`m from Brazil, also area 4, and I`m trying to copy one of my original DVD`s, the problem is it is just copying it in Black and White, the image is ok, the DVD is NTSC, but all I get when I record is Black and White video. It`s weird because when I simply play it it plays ok, with colors and all. If anyone can help me I would apreciate imenselly.
Only thoght I should mention the following facts:
Tried with area 4, 1 and 2 DVDs. It happens to them all.
Thanx,

mpublico
