Please help a dvd thicko...go-on, you know you want to...

I got a sony dvp ns530 when i was in new zealand last year. Although it says region 4 on the back of it i was able to play all region dvd`s. I am back in the uk now and ordered a dvd from the states(region1). when i try to play it i can see the picture but it is scrolling and in black and white with no sound.

I cant figure out if this is because it is not compatible with my dvd player (though i have played region1 discs before) or is an ntsc/pal thing and the tv which i am using now which is pretty old cant handle it???

any advice?

Sounds like either the scart leads or the TV. More than likely the TV cant handle the NTSC signal from the US DVD. Try it on a newer TV and see if it works.
