Hi,

Have you checked page 5 on the multi region hack pages? I had a lifestyle 18 series 2, (acording to the hack pages, the code was the same as the 28) and the hack worked but with one important difference. Have a disc loaded and playing when you enter the codes. Watch the on screen display and hold each button in until the text associated with that button vanishes. On one button (I think it`s the last one you press) the text stays displayed but don`t worry; just hold this button in for a few seconds. If the code works, at the end of the sequence the disk tray should partially open and close again.

One possible problem. You bought your Bose in the USA (region 1?), I bought mine in the UK (region 2). Maybe the unlock code is different......... If you search the internet you`ll find hundreds of sites, (mostly located in the USA) offering to provide codes; some loaded from the handset, some loaded from a special cd. There are also companies that will modify the hardware, but this might nullify any manufacturers guarantee. The Bose is very well built; depending on how much guarantee your player has left you might want to go down this route.

Best Regards, Jim.

Hi again,

You say `without the disc nothing worked`. Have you tried the code with a disc playing? If you have and it still doesn`t work, try putting `DVD multi region modification` into Google. You should find a shedload of helpfull sites. If your Bose series 1 is out of guarantee, if all else fails it would be worth paying a specialist to make it multi region via a hardware mod.

Regards,

Jim.

So there are some folks who claim the process works for them. I have two questions:
[list] [*] Is there any evidence that my US device is actually hackable?
[*] If so, what might I be doing wrong? [/list]

I bought a Bose AV28 Media Centre on ebay in California. The label on the bottom says "Bose Copyright 2001" so it sounds like it might be hackable to make it region free. I have read and CAREFULLY tried every unlock sequence on this site. I have tried it with both long button presses, and short button presses. I have tried it with both 3 second pauses between presses, and no pauses. I have tried it with with region 1 disc disc in, and playing, and disc out. AFter each sequence, I haveI turned it off (from the remote) and left it more than a carefully timed minute... and nada, nothing, zip!

My current process is:
[list]Code:

[*] Insert region-1 DVD (Minority Report) and get past all the preamble and get it playing.
[*] Press and hold for 2 seconds the Seek > key (the key to the left of Enter"). Wait 2 seconds. Nothing appears on the TV screen, but a little blob flashes on the Bose display.
[*] Press and hold for 2 seconds the Tune ^ key (the key above Enter"). Wait 2 seconds. Nothing appears on the TV screen, but a little blob flashes on the bose display.!
[*] Press and hold the Shufflebutton. Nothing appears on TV screen, but the Bose says "NO SHUFFLE IN DVD" Release after 2 seconds. Wait 2 seconds.
[*] Press and hold the Stop button. A small square appears on the TV screen. Keep holding the button until it disappears. Wait 2 seconds.
[*] Press and hold the Mute button. The word "Mute" appears on the TV. Keep holding the button until it disappears. Wait two seconds. At no point does the tray open/close (even for an instant, no rattle, nothing!)
[*] Press On/Off button. Bose goes to standby power.
[*] Wait 60 seconds
[*] Press On/Off to power on.
[*] Insert region 2 disk and play. :( [/list]

If someone reveals the secret I promise I will post the full updated spell here for all, and hopefully prevent more damn fool questions like mine.

:/

Mate, as with you i have an AV28 Media Centre (purchased whilst serving with the US Military in Europe) which forms part of a Lifestyle 35 system. Like you i need to make it multi region (or region free) now that i am back in the uk (can`t get hold of region 1 DVD`s so freely!). Have you had any joy in finding a solution? I`m tempted to get in touch with Bose but suspect that they`ll be non commital (ala all big mutilnational companies).

I`ll keep you informed of my progress and ask that you do the same if you have any joy!

I have not had success using these codes with a Region 1 Bose Lifestyle 48. If anyone has any other ideas about making this device multi-region, I would be most grateful.

To make region "0"
- Seek Forward Button (right arrow)
- Tune Up Button (up arrow)
- Shuffle Button
- Stop Button
- Mute Button

You need to do this after the player has come up with the invalid region error, and i heard its also firmware specific, i cant tell you anymore cos i dont own the player!!

There is also another!
first insert a region1 dvd into drive(ie a disk that is the wrong region). when it has been inserted using the bose remote control press and hold the play key for 30seconds or more then let go of the play button and then type in 999 on the control and it will set it to multiregion - to change back do the same again but use the code 000.
