Does anyone know if the remote and console hacks work on the new
M205 and M405, as according to Samsung Australia, they`ve phased
out the DVD 511 and 811, which are no longer available, apparently.

What still works out of the region free/choose your region/macrovision off?

If not, are there remote hacks which are different from the 511 - 811 hacks?

Strangely, the only web pages I can find on these models; none of them are in English, they`re either European or Asian.

Can anyone help?

By all accounts, the same region hack applies to the new models, but get confirmation of this before you splash out.

The Macrovision off doesn`t work - but then, it doesn`t work on the x11 players either! Only the third-generation (709, 809, 909 etc.) Samsung players can have Macrovision disabled via this hack.

Just bought a Hitachi DVP515 which is based on these new Samsung players and it hacked no problem - same on screen menus as the old Hitachi/Samsung, so same hack.

I am a little confused about one thing though, this site does state that the macrovision hack works on the 511 and 811 (though presumably not the others) and doesn`t mention the 709,809,909 etc at all. Are any of those models still available? Just asking as finding Samsung DVD players in Australia at all is really tricky business. But you`re absolutely certain these ones 709,809 and 909 can turn off macrovision.

The hack page on this site doesn`t actually say that you can disable Macrovision on the 511/811. All it says is: "On various Samsung models this hack will also disable Macrovision"... it doesn`t mention specific models for this. I can state categorically, however, that Macrovision disabling *definitely* works on the x09 machines, and definitely *does not* work on the x11 or later machines.

You`ll have a bit of a hard time finding a 709, 809 or 909 as they were discontinued last year. Your best bet is probably to scour the classified ads, etc. for a used one.

The box for the 511 and also 811 in the remote hackable page (where they have a picture of the machine etc etc) specifically mention that the hack removes Macrovision and it doesn`t say that for the 709. However, you certainly know your stuff and I`ve checked a lot of sites which say specifically that the 511 and 811 cannot have the Macrovision disabled as well as yourself, so I would imagine the site is wrong in this particular case.

I have actually found a place selling a 709 just down the road from my house, so I`m going to buy it. Just want to sort out a few things though, if you can help me, that would be great as all the info out there about Aiwa remotes and stuff gets confusing.

1) Some sites say you can hack the machine with the remote that comes with it. Is that right?

2) The hack with the supplied remote can be made permanent (Region free and Macrovision off) using the remote, and doesn`t need to be re-entered after turning the machine off.

3) The multiregion hack isn`t affected by RCE

4) If for whatever reason the hack needs to be turned off, you can, and then turn it back on again later. There isn`t any kind of countdown which locks your machine.

5) I`ve read some of the earlier 709`s don`t play some R1 discs like The Matrix etc. I imagine this is one of the later models and isn`t a problem but if it turns out to be an earlier model machine, this problem can be fixed without the hack being removed? How actually do they fix it, is it some kind of hardware upgrade?

6) Last of all, this is the bit I find the most confusing.

I found this QandA, which said if you buy a US 709, you can`t play European disc because you can only play NTSC and not PAL.

However, I`m in Australia and we use PAL, and I haven`t found anything that quite states the reverse, namely does European PAL 709`s play US NTSC discs back. Is that what all that talk about SCART and Quasi-PAL is about? Are they something that converts the signal from NTSC to PAL, so we don`t have the problem the people in the US have?
