Hi, here`s a region free hack for the Goodmans DVD recorder which also works on the Alba, I`ve got one from Tesco myself so I know it works!
REGION FREE HACK
OPEN DISK TRAY, MAKE SURE EMPTY CLOSE DISK TRAY PRESS TV/DVDR PRESS RETURN PRESS DISPLAY ENTER 8880
MESSAGE APPEARS ON SCREEN SAYING REGION-FREE
THATS IT

The Alba and the Goodmans are essentially the same machine. I tried both and found they tended to have hesitations in the recording about every 1-2 minutes. Are you having this problem?

:( Have tried this hack - nothing happens - no lights flash - no message and still can`t play other regions.......... where have I gone wrong??
