Wharfedale 750 and "The Patriot" - The Facts

There has been some confusion as to whether the Wharfedale 750 hacked with the 0,1,2,3,play
code can play "The Patriot" or not with some people saying it can and others saying it can`t.

The reason for this is different firmware chips being fitted in these players ....

To check if your player will be able to play "The Patriot" do the following steps :

1) UNPLUG THE UNIT FROM THE MAINS

2) Remove the screws and the the top cover ....

3) Look for the 40 pin firmware IC .. it will be labelled Wharfedale 750 CS=xxxx

If you chip reads CS=CBE8 then "The Patriot" should play no problem using the 0,1,2,3,play hack.

If your chip reads CS=5EE8 then you will not be able to play "The Patriot" and need a new firmware chip.

Unfortunatley the cost of these blank chips is very expensive so to offer a good price in the
CBE8 firmware we have to ask that you return the old chip to us in the envelope provided.

We will offer these replacement chips for £20 each ... please do return your old one or we cannot
continue this offer for long :(

We have not yet had chance to add these chips to the site so if you wish to order one then please
order the region chip for the Akai 2000 (same price of £20) BUT in the special instructions part
of the form type "Wharfedale 750 Patriot Firmware".

When you receive the new firmware chip simply lever (carefully) the chip from it`s socket and replace
it with the new one making sure the cut out in the chip is at the right end !! Pack the old chip
in the plastic tube provided and return it to us.

Now do the 0,1,2,3,play hack and your player should be "Patriot Ready".

We also have a Macro disable hack for this player :)

and what if it says

"Wharfedale DVD750
CS=328C"

this is an interim 750 bought a few weeks back, not tried it with the patriot yet.. also not tried making it multi-region, as vcd`s don`t have a region.. :)

Wow there are so many different firmwares and versions of this player ... I dont suppose you are local to me (West Yorkshire) ???

It is unclear whether the version of firmware we have that plays the patriot has any bugs in it such as having problems with Jaws etc .... Until this is determined you may wish to postpone your order ....

sorry i`m not local, i`m from just outside of manchester..

i`ll hopefully be borrowing a copy of patriot by end of weekend to test, and if it works i`ll try to get the s/w dumped.. :)

It seems that 328C may be quite a new version .... whether it will play the patriot or not is what we now need to know ....

Well looks like we have a result ... the firmware version CBE8 is confirmed by me to play the Patriot and confirmed by a Wharfedale owner on "the dvd forums" to play Region 2 Jaws so it looks like this firmware is a winner :)

Just bought a Wharfdale 750 today from my local Tesco store in Northern Ireland. I did as Steve mentioned earlier and looked at the firmware details inside. Mine is CS=328C like Alteredreality`s. Aside from the Patriot issue, does anyone know if this machine will play region 1 DVD`s?

the 328C will play all region one discs, including The Patriot.

just goto the region hack section of this site: http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/ should be there.
