MACROVISION FOR LG 3200 via remote control

laid_back_steve (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 18th November 2001, 02:12

Could anyone tell me if it is possible to disable the macrovision via the remote control on a LG DVD-3200E player. Or is the only way to buy a mod chip or external macrovision remover????

Cheers

STEVE

Defeating Macrovision

Sorry, there is no remote hack to disable Macrovision.

The good news is that a couple of online dealers are now offering a "VCR Mode" (Macrovision free) modification for the LG DVD-3350E. Their solution is to wire in an extra chip (like a Playstation hack) to suppress the Macrovision.

The bad news is that these "dealer fitted" modifications are quite expensive and reports are very mixed over their effectiveness. For example, the Techtronics modification works OK when simply watching DVDs via a VCR or projector and can in fact handle both PAL and NTSC titles (as long as PAL is the selected output and Pseudo PAL is turned off in the Setup Menu). However, some people experience problems when trying to record DVDs onto VHS, with the results showing multiple images and extra shadows.

All in all, an external Macrovision removal device or lead may be a cheaper option, give more stable results, and will not invalidate your warranty.
