Page 1 of Change region on Audiovox D1998?

I was just given an Audiovox D1998 portable DVD player, and am trying to get it to play my region 2 DVDs. Can anyone help me out with this? I can get to the part where it shows the current region by doing the following:
Setup
Preferences
Down
1,3,7,9 (repeat once or twice until region info appears)

I then get to the screen that shows "Region.......1", but I can`t get the region number to change. I`ve tried using the up/down keys as well as the actual number keys, with no luck.

Any ideas what I can do now?

did you ever figure out how to change the region on this?
(how did you even figure out how to get to the showing of the region number?)

Most, if not all of the other Audiovox players can be changed using the following method. I also used a similar one on another brand of DVD player and found that after a couple of tries with it not working, I repeated the steps below but pressing the keys just a little bit more firmly and possibly a bit quicker than before and it worked, so maybe try that?:

1. Open the disc tray
2. Press SETUP
3. Go to the "Preferences" page
4. Enter 9, 6, 5, 3
5. Press 0 for multi-region
6. Press SETUP

Unfortunately, this did not work. the 9,6,5,3 combo never gave me the region code screen, and I tried it about 50 times. I can still get to the region screen with the 1,3,7,9, combo, but am unable to change the region number.

I`ve searched all over online and haven`t been able to find a working hack for this model, so I have to assume there isn`t one.

Hey - have you found a hack for this model yet? I have just bought one and need to play region 2 dvds.
