The firmware supplied with the American DVD-M301 is not hackable, however it *is* possible to replace it with European DVD-M series firmware version 5.02Ee and hack that. See this thread on 709 online (entitled "Samsung M301?") for a fuller explanation:

As a nice side effect, the firmware will allow you to play PAL format DVDs as well as NTSC ones. You must have a PAL compatible TV, though.

Hi Mike.
Actually there is a Hack, I found it last weekend after "playing" about an hour with the equipment.. You can do it using an Aiwa Remote or a Configurable remote with sleep and clock buttons, setting it to control a Aiwa receiver.
The Trick is:
Turn the equipment (M301) On.
Open the Disk Tray.
Press Sleep in the Aiwa remote, after that you will see the cold start screen in the TV.
Press Clock three times Very Quickly between pressing and pressing, After this you will see an Adjusting Message in the M301 LCD Screen.
Put the Disk you wanna watch and close the disk tray, no matter what region it is, it will Play.
The Hack will work as soon as the equipment is kept on, after you Turn the M301 off, it will go back to its initial state (it will ask for the language every time you do a Cold Start).

Best Regards From Venezuela and Enjoy!!

Danirod

Danirod,

Sorry, I should have clarified that by saying it isn`t hackable with *its own* remote ;-) The Aiwa hack is as you say, still active on these machines.

When you say "You can do it using an Aiwa Remote or a Configurable remote with sleep and clock buttons, setting it to control a Aiwa receiver.", can you name a few configurable remotes that have these SLEEP and CLOCK buttons? And what Aiwa equipment uses this remote?

Thanks... I feel I am closer to finding a solution to my DVD region hack.

Cheerio...

Hi Danirod.

I`m from Venezuela too. Can you tell me about the remote control I need for this Hack. Should it be an Aiwa TV, receiver, or DVD remote control?

Thank you!! Regards.

Apac.

Hi Dan

I did everything you said to do, using a Awia RC-ZAS01 Remote Control. But it still does not work. Is your password and/or parent control set to anything in particular? Is the above message all I need to do? Is this for region 1 Samsung DVD-M301? Everything goes fine up until the part when it is suppose to play. It suddenly stops and gives an error message "Please Check the TV System". It has nothing to do with the Tv because when I disconected the DVD from the TV it still did not play.

Hi Raphael. My parent control is not set to anything in particular. Yes, this is for region 1 Samsung DVD-M301. Do u get the "adjust" message in the LCD screen? I bought my DVD player on Best Buy last August, could be a difference between your player firmware and mine? What region DVD did u try to play? I played DVD´s like Jurassic Park and Amadeus region 4 and I had no problem. Is the DVD you are trying to play new? I am asking because it could be the RCE protection on the new DVD´s.
Hi legonz, Actually I used my Home sound Aiwa remote, but, I have an All for one remote, but this one doesn´t have a clock button. I set this remote to be used with Aiwa recievers and I tried the sleep button and it worked in the same way as the aiwa did, but because the clock button is missing in this remote I did not go any farther, but I am pretty sure there is a combination of buttons to emulate the clock one. this weekend I am going to try and I will let u know if I get luck.
Hi Apac, Yo use el control de mi equipo de sonido.
Any of you feel free to email me to: 2002nador[at].moc.oohay
Best Regards.
Dan
