Aiwa has announced an upgraded DVD-player line that includes a unit capable of MP3-encoded CD playback and a compact transportable model.

The new AIWA XD-DV370 (shown right) is a full-featured DVD player with built-in MP3 decoding, allowing it to play MP-3-encoded CDs. As a result, MP3 music files can be dubbed undecoded onto a CD-R or CD-RW disc for playback on the XD-DV370. Other XD-DV370 features include a 96kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter; a 10-bit video D/A converter; a Dolby Digital/DTS digital output (offering both optical and coaxial connectors); dual stereo RCA outputs; and component, S-Video and composite video outputs. The XD-DV370 carries a suggested retail price of $300 USD.

The new AIWA XD-DV170 is a small, lightweight player that offers AC/DC operation and is compatible with DVDs, CDs, CD-R/RWs and VCDs. It includes a 96kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter and a 10-bit video D/A converter as well as Q Surround, to create surround-sound effects from two audio channels. The XD-DV 170 carries a suggested retail price of $350.

Thats the same report I read before buying the 370.

I also seem to remember an earlier posting from someone RETURNING a 170 because the region hack doesn`t work?

Anything further there Palmiris?
