Page 1 of Samsung 709 faulty?
Hardware Forum
I have a samsung 709 (paid £300) when it first came out. Anyway it`s developed a fault where by it gets nearly to the end of a film and then the picture starts sticking (the unit makes a nosie like a hard drive search) If you leave the unit off for a while (an hour or so) and then play the film it works playing the section it got suck on. It`s bloody anoying!!
Anyone got any ideas. I`ve use a DVD cleaning CD but still no joy. It seems to only affect reading when the player is warmed up.
HELP...
It could be an overheating problem - 709s do get very hot, and benefit from a lot of ventilation. (Have you noticed that the disc is always warm when you take it out?)
Samsung should really have put a fan inside the unit, but they are cheapskates so they didn`t. As it stands, you should make sure there`s lots of space around the unit for heat to escape.

it has a search engine thatll list all the machines and what faults and which media theyll play and wont play hope this helps..:)
It does this playing orginal dvd`s not copied ones. Mind you VCD`s are fine! Any further help?
It could be comeing to the end of it`s life. Having said that I have 2 709`s that I got when they first came out (no easy hack then you had to get them chipped for multiregion) and they are still going strong after being thrashed for years. They do suffer in the heat even a hot day can make a differance but they are not as bad as yours appears to be. You could check for a dust build up on the main PCB by removing the top cover and cleaning only the PCB with a bristle brush (not nylon). If this does not sort it out a service by a decent engineer (laser assy and guides etc) might help but it is now costing money so with the amount of newer and cheap players about it might be time to treat yourself;-)
