This is looks quite tasty for DVD buffs, but I wouldn`t get it from Dixons. I`m gonna what a while on this one.
But does anyone know if it can play MP3s on a CD-RW / CD-R etc.

the MPEG encoder will be higher quality resulting in better recordings. Most press reviews seem to bear this out

don`t bother with any of the phillips recorders, i`ve tried them at home, and got refunded as they are so bad. (pic quality at the longer recording modes, clunky editing) i`ve bought 3 of the panasonic recorders and they are excellent, especially useful is the timeslip function

PHILIPS DVD+RW 1000 vs PANASONIC DMR-E20

Forum name change:

I`ve got a funny feeling that if we hang around for a bit longer, Panasonic may just bring out another generation model that will be able to play MP3s (plus the kitchen sink etc.)... If anyone has any news on this please let me know. I am eager to get my Mini-DV tapes onto DVD/DVD-R. I was going to take the SVCD route option but for some damn reason the quality just isn`t good enough. Especially for some of the fantastic memories captured over the last 3 years I`ve had my DV Camcorder, (again made by Panasonic, the EX1B).

between these 2 models I would go for the Panny as the MPEG compression quality is by all acounnts better than the Philips especially if you go for the longer recording modes. Main drawback with the panny is the DVD Ram discs won`t work on 99.9% of players.

I`ve just bought the Philips 880 model and I`m well pleased with it on first impressions. Made a few test recordings, quality of the picture is great and the disc worked fine on my Tosh player without it having to be finalized as you would on DVD-R/RW discs.

Oh, the 880 also plays MP3s.

All I need now is to borrow a OneForAll remote and get it hacked to multi region.
