I also work for Asda in their electrical dept. and, unlike the others you mentioned, do know something about the players we sell. The best one on the go at the moment is the Pacific 1002 at £85. This can be hacked for multi region and plays every form of CD I`ve tried in it. VCD, SVCD, Cd-r, CD-rw, MP3, the lot!
Hope this helps!
Oh and you`ll find the hack on this site!

I work for Asda, and am also looking for a budget player. Dont really care about VCDs (as they`re crap!), but it must be multi region.
As I will be using an old portable, with no scart socket, I will be connecting it to my video, and then from the vid to the portable.

Will this give me any problems?

Cheers for any help!

wow look at all the sad people who work at asda, err wait a minute so do i damn. But seriously the pacific dvd 1002 is a good machine and it plays everthing ive thrown at it with a picture quaility comparable to my toshiba and with the old discount we get it only comes to about £76.50 and its better than the apex although not as good to look at lol. Oh nearly forgot there is a region hack for it it was posted by alt earlier

Ensure Region 2 DVD is in the Player

>1. Press "setup"

>2. Press "1" for region 1 or press "2" for region 2...press "7" for bypass
>Region code.

>3. Press "PAUSE/STEP"

>4. Press "previous" (This is ¦<< )

>5. Press "next" (This is >>¦ )

>6. Press "setup"

Hope this Helps

( Although Branded Pacific, I believe the 1002 is not from the same manufacturer as the 750 hence the
8421 trick does not work here.)

Hiya bubblegum, listen my dad has just bought an Apex Digital AD-1100WB from asda and he seems quite satified with it.
Rather than using it on an old portable and running it through your video, why not buy a reasonable combined TV/Video with a scart socket,
I`ve just set up my dads this afternoon and it works no problem.
I hope this helps,as I cant see the point on using new technology on old equipment.Hope this helps

Hi there BigP, i have read your description of the Pacific 1002 dvd player available at ASDA and was hapy to read that it can play SVCD`s... thing is, i am having no luck playing them, vcd`s work fine and so does my mp3`s etc, so i was wondering what i have to do to get them to work? Do i have to put in a hack or something? i noticed in the manual it says that it wont play svcd`s so i am assuming there is something else to do, maybe burn them with a certain software, or onto a certain disk maybe? I am at a bit of a loss here so if you could please help me out i would be very grateful... thanks in advance looking forward to hearing back from you.

Just bought the Pacific 1002 from ASDA.
Can confirm that the Region crack is perfect. Also it will play everything.
VCD/SVCD/ & DVD-R & DVD-RW.
As I have a DVD writer I needed the DVD RW compatability.
Bargain at £85.
Very few left so buy if you can get it.
