philips 28pw9617 flat screen edges

Andrew Briggs (Harmless) posted this on Sunday, 22nd September 2002, 17:45

Yesterday I noticed that the corners of my screen display (the actual tube) appear to slightly bend in. i.e. I expected the sides to be perfectly straight up and down but they actually curve slightly (maybe by 1 - 2 mm) in at the top and bottom on both sides, from about a couple of centimetres in. This is easier to see when I select an AV channel on my TV, that has the device was turned off as a bright blue picture is displayed.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal. i.e. typical of flat screens or am I not normal in being bothered about this ? I thought I might go into a shop tomorrow to compare.

Any comments appreciated.

yep this type of distortion is typical on all philips flat screens models and i am afraid you are not the only one to be complaining about it. it is possiable to adjust the picture with a service remote but adjusting the picture in one area often distorts it in another. not really a lot you can do

Thanks for the reply.

I`ve read that you can alter geometry via the service menu but I suppose this will just straighten the edges optically as you can see when the TV is off that the actual tube curves slightly in at the corners.

At least an optical improvement would be better. I`m tempted to just live with it as I think I will forget about it eventually and actually watch the images rather than the edge of the screen ! My wife thinks I`m barking mad.
