Planning a cheap home cinema system

Richard_lench (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 6th October 2002, 16:15

Preferably on a budget under £225.

Been looking around the Internet and found some good deals. Can anyone let me know what they think of this stuff for the prices I post?

http://www.richersounds.com/products/images/products/206022.jpg - Centre and rear speakers. They aren`t actually rear speakers but I will use them for the rears and use my current speakers as the front speakers - £19.99

http://www.richersounds.com/products/images/products/205002.jpg - Sub. Quite powerful, good make and only £30

However I can`t decide on the amp itself. This one is £120 but I don`t know if it`s DTS - the info on the website contradicts itself over DTS

http://www.richersounds.com/products/images/products/206331.jpg - £120

If it isn`t DTS then I will probably go for this one:

£150 and definitely has DTS.

So, does this seem like a good package/deal?

Cheers for any feedback.

Impatient, are we? Bumping after less than 24 hours!!
Right, I can`t identify all the kit you`re suggesting, as you`ve linked to images - a product name and model would have been good. If I were you I`d forget about the sub - a £30 sub will sound horrid - no control. Better to put the money saved into a better centre or rears.

Have a look at my first answer in this thread http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=116234&Type=1 - almost exactly what you`re aiming for - I wrote it up like that because bullitt`s original post made it sound like the total budget was £250, rather than £250 for amp, £250 for speakers. Don`t worry too much about DTS, although I`m sure you`ll wonder about the difference if you don`t have it - it only really comes into it`s own when it is the sole soundtrack option, and recorded at full rate - see the recent "prove DTS is better than DD" thread for the arguments!!

Finally, I`m not sure the Pioneer amp is available on line at te mo - out of stock - might be worth a ring round some local Richer Sounds stores.
