Page 1 of Alba DVD 109 - no hacking required for vcd & svcd

Just been to Argos to buy 3 Alba 108 for xmas presents. Had a 20% off voucher which meant they only cost me £56 a piece !!!!.

Anyway I was aware that it may be substituted for a different model and I ended up with 3 Alba dvd 109 players :-(

Anyway, apart from looking cheap campared to the 108 it plays VCD & SVCD straight out of the box as well as MP3 and DVD.

The only drawback I can see is that it has no s-video output and only has co-axial digital output for audio.

THE QUESTION I NEED TO ASK THOUGH.

Does anyone know of any problems that the 109 may have ?
The ones I bought will not be used til Xmas and I wouldn`t like to give my relatives duff gear (or would I !!!).

Alba 108 no s-video out? Mine does plus optical and bitstream, must be a different version.

i ended up with alba 109 from argos as well .looked everywhere for region hack but cant find it any where .it to was a present .i have hundreds of region one discs but it wont play them.do you already know the region hack ??????? other wise i have to take it back and get a different model

my 108 has Audio Out (stereo) Coaxial, Composite Video and scart!

Sorry, don`t know about any region hacks for the 109.

Try a different branch of Argos if you can. Many of them are substituting the 114 for the 108 - the 114 is a much better player and is multi-region out of the box (with fuss-free VCD and SVCD playback too, no hacks required).
