Anybody else out there own a Philips DVDR890? I`m on a second machine already and still having trouble, took the first one back..still having problems with picture centering on DVD playback, ILINK input AND Composite video input (Cam1 & 2). Picture is way out, off center by a mile, still pretty bad with video setting to extreme right..what`s more, picture appears in different position on Cam 1 & 2, even when using identical input device and source material. Have tried 3 seperate input devices, multiple source tapes, both machines I`ve had so far are not up to scratch. EXT 1 & 2 inputs are fine.
It wpould be good to hear from someone who has this DVDR 890 and does not have this trouble, so I can have a little more faith in Philips than I do at the moment......

I have had a dvdr890 for 2 weeks and it works great, all pictures are centered fine. One thing the ilink won`t receive pictures from a sony MICRO MV camcorder. works fine using cam1 input.I am very happy with my machine.

Steve
I`m currently agonising over which DVD recorder to buy.
I can`t make my mind up between the Phillips 890 as a set top option or whether to buy an internal drive for my PC.
Have you tried recording straight from you PC using the firewire link. I`m wondering if it`s possible to record video that you have edited on a PC in something like Adobe Premier straight to the DVDR890.
Is there much scope for editing scenes etc within the options available on the 890
Also is it possible to make backup copies of dvd films, XBOX Games etc.
any advice before I buy would be much appreciated.

I havent tried connecting the firewire from my pc to the dvd, but now you have mentioned it I will give it a try. you won`t be able to copy dvd films as they have copy protection (macrovision) as for the machine I think it`s GREAT !
RE: Philips DVDR 890 Picture Probs
there`s not much editing available. you can add chapters and re name them, you would be better off doing that with pc software. The i link on the philips dvdr890 won`t work with Sony Micro MV camcorders!
