Sky Picture Quality

GJD (Competent) posted this on Friday, 20th December 2002, 15:15

Hi folks

My Sky picture seems very blocky of late (and my magic eye remote for my second TV has packed up..not sure if this is related). Signal strength and quality in the menus are at 50% ish. Is this unusually low? Should I get an engineer in to resite the dish do you think (it`s not in an ideal spot since it was moved last year after some building work)?

Any help much appreciated..

GJD, I wouldn`t have thought that the remote receiver would have any impact on your signal strength, the most likely cause is probably the wet and windy weather, and your dish or lnb`s (the reciever pointing into your dish) angle being slightly out of focus.

If your not two scared of climbing a ladder place a TV near your window and select sky`s signal strength screen, loosen of your dishes bolts then re-pan the dish`s azimuth and elevation angles to see if your signal strength increases (only adjust one angle at a time). Also ensure that the LNB is directly pointing at the dishes center as this is where the em waves are focused.

At this time of year I lose a lot of channels on my SKY.
ITV1 and 2, plus numerous others like Q-Kerrang etc.
" No satellite signal being received " is all it says.
It`s fine in the summer, unless it`s really bad weather in which case I get the above. SKY tell me I need a new LNB and will charge me £60 for the pleasure of being able to receive channels I bloody pay for...
Is this correct ?
Is there an easier fix than further feeding SKY`s fat corporate wallet ?

If indeed Sky are correct in saying it`s the LNB then the cheapest way is to fit a new one yourself, just a very quick check on google tells me they can be had for around the £20 mark.
