Pause problem with Sony DAVS880

APP (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 22nd January 2003, 23:55

I recently spent a fair bit on the DAVS880, but have been disappointed with the amount of pauses on many of the DVDs I`ve got, which if you watch the DVD again don`t neccessarily happen in the same place twice.
I`m aware that there is a warning of this possibly happening on the box of the discs themselves, but I can`t help being frustrated by it. This is my first DVD player, and I know dozens of people with players and no-one has ever mentioned this happening to them.
So, am I expecting too much, or do I have a problem with my system, or could there be something that I`ve not got set up correctly. If I went back to the shop, they`d probably refer me to the warning on the boxes themselves, or need to watch a few DVDs on the system to see what I mean.
Anyone help me out?
Andrew.

I have 10 different dvd player/recorders including a close relatve of yours, the DAVS 550 and none of them exhibit the erratic pausing you are experiencing. All of them except for the Aiwa XDDV 370 pause for about a second during the layer change when the laser has to refocus at approx, 1hour 15 minutes through a film but it should not happen more than once whilst watching a film. If your 880 is doing this, there is a fault and should be exchanged or repaired.
Hope this helps,

fred
