Hardware Forum
Have updated firmware and have found that it does not play authored VCD but does play standalone MPEG1 files. Anybody else found this to be the case?
Hi, just bough this player, wondering whether you knew if it is Region 2 only or Muti-region, it doesn`t tell me anywhere!
It was multiregion straight out of the box. ;)
how and where did you update the firmware? I am attempting to play a dvd copy on my player and it will not play. It plays on my steam powered PC dvd drive . Is there anythinginthe firmware update that will allow me to play back up copied DVDs?
Firmware update for VCD/SVCD playback is via upgrade CD from the Helpline number on the box. Mine plays authored VCD`s no problem.
Before and after the firmware update plays DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW no problem. In fact I haven`t found any discs that it won`t play.
Your problem could be due to the way the DVD backup copy was made.
Some DVD copying software (Nero) produces discs with a file format that is incompatible with some standalone DVD players. The discs will play fine on a PC DVD drive.
Thanks I did get a copy emailed to me and have upgraded my player. It was very straight forward. It would seem that urbans01 response is correct (as expected) and that the upgrade did not resolve the problem. I take it there is no patch to solve the incompatibilty problem with Nero etc???
RE: Mico Diamante 3000 VCD
Help[ please Ineed to understand did your Mico play copied DVD straight out of the box
I am looking for a player for the spare room that plays copies and do not want to just buy one and hope also have you heard does the Goodmand GDVD134 play copies
Thanks
deadman walking - assuming you mean copied DVD`s on DVD recordable discs then yes. Out of the box the Mico Diamante 3000 plays every kind of DVD recordable disc I`ve tried. But whether it will play a specific copied DVD will depend on how that DVD copy was produced. As mentioned previously - some DVD copying programs, ie Nero, produce discs that are playable on computer DVD drives but not all standalone players. This is the fault of the copying software, not the player. In my experience - if the DVD copy has been correctly produced the Mico will play it.
However, If you mean copied DVD`s that have been converted to VCD format onto CD recordable discs then no. The Mico won`t play VCD`s until the firmware has been updated to V1.1 by using an upgrade CD available from the helpdesk number on the box.
