ntsc/pal hack?

phil miesle (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 30th December 2000, 18:58

Hello,

I live in Ireland but just got a US-based DVD player. The multi-region hack is easy enough, but as the player only outputs NTSC 3.58 it will not work on my PAL/NTSC 4.43 television. I can put this through a signal converter but the quality will not be as good as the native format.

My question: is the fix to this likely to involve a hack similar to the multi-region hack or will I probably have to replace a part? (I have an Aiwa XDDV370).

Regrettably there is no hack to get pal from a US player. You will have to make an upgrade by buying something like a NTSC-Pal converter from someone like lektropaks.

The reason this is so is because the yanks dont have any need to watch any of our disks cos they were out on R1 ages before they made R2.

Unlike us pitiful lot who have to order our disks from around the world and thus have to be able to play NTSC as well as Pal.

Sorry mate.

I guess youre player is out of warranty...but if it isn`t and ya wanna know if the switch can be fitted, get me some GOOD quality pictures of your internal board, above AND below and I`ll check it against my UK board and see if it`s possible.

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!
