Page 1 of Dolby Surround through a SCART cable?

Does Dolby Surround sound work correctly (and is it advisable) through a SCART cable. I have my AIWA 370 connected to the RGB Scart socket on my Philips TV, this has Dolby Pro Logic on board. Everything is set up as per the book says but

to be honest, it sounds just better than pants!

Would I be better connecting the S-Video connector up along with the audio cables (analogue) to my TV? (The only problem I have here is those connections are round the front righthand side of the TV).

What settings do I then need to set my DVD player and movie sound settings?

It would be nice to buy a seperate amp to connect the Digital out to but Santa Claus ripped me off this year so I`ll have to wait.

Firstly, SCART is simply a type of connector. You can carry various different signals including composite video, S-Video, RGB, and audio channels. Some of the SCART pins can also be used to carry switching signals etc so your TV automatically changes to the AV channel when the DVD player is switched on.

Dolby Pro-Logic works by encoding the centre and surround channels onto the standard stereo signal so certainly you should get surround sound from your TV

The best settings would probably be to use RGB video if your player and TV are compatible.

Dolby Digital does give much better quality since it provides for 5 full bandwidth channels and a sub woofer channel.

Thanks Karl. You say that you can carry S-Video through a SCART cable though, how is this possible?

Am I right in understanding you when you say "RGB Video would be best", that this is how I have got it set up already. If not, please tell, I`m a thicko when it comes to stuff like this ; )
