SVCD is not a fixed standard so your audio may be a bit rate your DVD player can`t play. Can you play it with your DVD software on your computer? or a mates?

There may be another way but if you download TMPGEnc and you go in the tools part and add the video to de-multiplex it tells you the Video and Audio bit rates.

TMPGEnc and other info here - http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

Found an easy program here - http://avicodec.duby.info/

its probably because the SVCD was recorded either mpeg or PCM

Check the option on your DVD player it might have the possibility in decoding it (mine has) alternatively, if youve got an amp, try all the sound modes

thanx guys for answering..
i have tried the settings on the player, have tried many combinations, maybe wrong ones,,can you help.
menu-language
AUDIO DIGITAL OUT

lpcm-------off or pcm.
dolby dig.-----pcm/bitstream
DTS-----off/bitstream
mpeg---pcm/bitstream
SURROUND SOUND FORMAT----DTS/digital out
dolby digital
mpeg multi channel
DYNAMIC RANGE------max/compressed
DOWNMIX MODE------dolby surround/stereo normal
DOWNSAMPLING-------true 96khz/48khzcompatible
this does not look the same as it is on paper sorry, but i hope you get the general idea.the 5 listed in CAPS are the choices when i choose language from menu bar.the rest are choices from each of them,i have tried many different combinations but still cant get a result, maybe i have still not hit the right combination,if you could point out which combination i should use i would be very happy and grateful..many thanx..
