Page 1 of Help with screen settings for Aiwa 370

Just managed to get hold of a 370 and am really impressed....

But...

When I turn the DVD on (assuming TV is already on), the TV changes from 4:3 format to 16:9 automatically. I can manually change it back to 4:3, but it`s a bit of a pain doing it each time... anyone got any ideas?

The TV is a Sony KV-A2542U, 4:3, Pro-Logic (about 4 yrs old) and it`s connected to the Aiwa by Scart (RGB). I think I`ve tried all permutations of the DVD setup/connection... Scart, S-Vid, AV1, AV2, 4:3(LB), 4:3(PS), 16:9. I`ve tried changing the TV setup but I`ve kind of mislaid the manual <:) , so I may not have exhausted the possibilities there...

Oh... previously had a Lecson connected in the same way, using the same Scart lead with no problem.

Any advice would be gratefully received...

You may already know this, but...the SCART has a control signal on pin 8 to switch the TV into various states. This used to be a two state signal ie TV and AV (that`s how a VCR switches the television to AV mode when you put in a pre-recorded tape). More recently it has become a three state signal by introducing a `middle` voltage to switch the TV into widescreen 16:9 mode.

Solution. Well I haven`t been able to get my 370 yet (but I will !!) so I can`t say if the DVD has a way of turning this signal off (if it`s the same as the LG3350 online manual then I think the answer is no). The alternatives would be to disconnect the wire on pin 8 of your SCART - which is a bit drastic; or use the S-video 4 pin input rather than the SCART.

I would guess that your Lecson was only outputting the two level signal on the SCART, that`s why you didn`t have the problem previously.

Thanks Stainless... I didn`t know about pin 8. I`ve got a cheap scart lead somewhere, so I`ll butcher that to see if it works :)

Good luck tracking down the Aiwa. And don`t believe anything the main Comet office tells you because they haven`t got a clue what they`re doing. The only way to know for sure whether a store has one is to go there in person.
