Hardware Forum
I think this is my first time posting. I know the subject of Sky has been discussed many times but just had to tell you about my last episide.
Against my better judgment I took out Sky+ in October last year, this after having nothing but problems in the early days with Sky digital (5 boxes and 10+ engineers visits!)
Since October I`ve had 3 Sky+ boxes and 4 engineer visits. Last week the hard drive goes bang again, I make the usual call and 3 days later have not heard anything so numerous phone calls later and conversatons with various idiots I get a service call for Tuesday just gone to replace the box and LNB. I take another day off work Tuesday comes the engineers turn up but with a LND and no box. What a surprise after changing the LNB (and dish) I still have no record etc.
I try phoning to complain and actually have the name of 3 so called supervisors but the usual chimps won`t put me through and just say boxes won`t be delivered until after easter when I will then get a call.
Yes I could cancel the direct debit (which is very tempting) but then I have waisted the cost of the Sky+ box and really there isn`t much of an altenative channel wise for films and music.
I would feel better if I could at least talk to somebody about my problems but guess I will have to put it in writing.
Any way thats the end of my (very long) rant and to anybody considering Sky or Sky+... DON`T IT`S NOT WORTH THE STRESS, if you havn`t had it you wont miss it.
Just noticed this was probably better in the retailer reviews section, sorry.
I got Sky Digital 3 years ago, have had the same bov throughout and the only tiem anyone has ever been is to install it, I have been very happy with their service.
Well Jim..
I can assure you that you must be the luckiest guy in Britain.
SKY are completely and utterly useless.
I simply cannot understand their position regarding their equipment for example.
I pay £40+ a month for them to provide me with certain channels.
Currently, I cannot get all those channels because my LNB needs replacing.
They want to charge me £60 to fix it.
They keep arguing that the equipment is mine.
Yeah ? Well if it`s `mine` how come they won`t let me swap boxes with a mate ?
I really detest them, but what can you do ?
Are you sure you have not just been unbelievably unlucky? I have friends and family and they have never had any trouble with Sky, and, in the 7 years I had Sky Analogue I had no problems.
If you have had your equipment for a number of years and it packs in costing a fortune to fix it, just pack in sky for a few months. My brother did this.
Then reapply as a new customer in your wifes maiden name account, pay the installation fee, (make sure you take your old system down first) then wella, you have new equipment again.
They are more than happy to have you as a paying customer again.
What a damned fine idea...
Tell me though.I thought a lot of SKY`s records were based on your phone number, so how do you get round that ?
Daft question maybe, but are all the new boxes silver these days ?
One has to match you know....
Well it`s now 16 days on and yet another call and I still don`t know when I will get a new box as the company contracted to replace it haven`t taken delivery.
Just to make things worse not only is record and playback not working but the box just packs up on a daily basis and I have to do a full software update to get it to work again, the usual reset procedure does sod all !
I`ve put my complaint in writing so am waiting to hear, ha, ha.
