S-video on Sony trinitron 25"

Gavin (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 17th January 2001, 21:01

I have a 25" sony trinitron that is about five years old. It is the nicam version with the chunky remote, does anyone know is it supports S-Video through either of the two scart sockets. Unfortunatly, I`ve lost the manual and the picture through the single composite picture is crap. Thanx

What`s your model number?

I have a KV-X2552U 25" Sony Trinitron (Manual printed in 1992). It is also a NICAM version with a chunky remote (RM-816). Nice!

At the rear a two SCART sockets - Top/SCART2 and Bottom/SCART1.

SCART1=Normal audio/video and RGB Signal.
SCART2=Normal audio/video and S-video Signal.

I also have a proper S-video connector along with composite video / audio on the front of the set under the pull down flap.

By toggling through the various input modes on your controller you should be able to ascertain which connector (if any) will do S-video.

On my Sony the OSD shows an arrow pointing into a screen type box containing an S when S-video is selected.
An arrow pointing into a screen with an inverted smile (below three dots) denotes RGB input selected.

I`m surprised you found composite so poor, mines as good as the RGB input!

Have manual / Will scan if required.

Thankyou for the reply. I will check the model number ASAP. My TV doesn`t have the s-video on the front but it does show the 2[-->s] option on the OSD.

I just checked the model it is KV-X2542U. I am going to try a s-vid to scart cable from maplins (£7.99)

Regards Gavin

P.S Perhaps I was a little unfair about the composite image, it`s not that bad.
