Pioneer 535 advice required

himmelblau (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 10th February 2001, 05:35

I have noticed that my player appears to pause for a moment during play and was wondering if this is normal, or a fault.

The player was bought from Richer Sounds and is multiregional.

Would be grateful for any advice.

I have just bought a 535 myself. The pause is normal i think and happens when the laser retracks when changing layers on dual layer disks.According to published reviews this is normal.

What do you think of the sound quality out of the analogue phono connections.I think its a bit poor ie thin treble, not very transparent with an upper mid colouration and soft bass lacking dynamics and distortion on voices.I havent tried the digital output yet.Have you ?.Is it a lot better.

Any comments appreciated

Andy

Andy - replied on the other thread.

Himmelblau - The Pioneer still doesn`t handle layer changes too well - if you`re talking about a single pause about half way through the presentation of most discs, then that`s what it is. If your player pauses more often than once, then there`s a larger problem, and I`d suggest you try a different one.

I`ve tries the digital vs analogue outputs and the digital one is a lot better. Although, I only tried cheap analogue interconnects against a £25 coaxial lead!

Ahh, that might also be making the difference, as I would have been using my sell-your-Grandmother £35 analogue interconnects, rather than the cotton-thin usual type.
