pacific 1002w macrovision

dangw10 (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 20th December 2003, 00:11

when i bought this player it was macro free in region 2 out of the box.
applying the multi region (open/clear/13690close) hack has made it multi-region ok.
but the macro vision hack listed every where doesent seem to have any effect regardless of when i apply it, weather it be in region free mode or region 1 or 2.

anyone else got any ideas ?

Dan.

You have to select the region first THEN apply the macro hack. Even so this is not a great player to macro hack.

Hi Snafu, thanks for the prompt reply. I tried to mail you yesterday but my system crashed unexpectedly - anything to do with your name do you think ??

However tried the hack you suggested but no joy unfortunately. Also tried 14560 as an alternative, thinking it might follow the same logic as the prev 13690 hack for multiregion, which does work on my 1002W
Have you had any positive confirmation that the 1002W can have the Macro disabled ? I made my test with an R1 disc in which the Macro effect definitely persists after the Open: clear:4 5 6 1 0:close is applied. Have I missed a point somewhere ?

it would seem that this machine has a rather strange quirk, it is MACRO FREE out of the box but only for region 2 disks, i know this because i ran my oceans 11 and LotR 2 towers through the vid and all was clear so i popped in my r1 pirates of the caribbean and up popped `wrong region` so i tried the multi region hack and it worked fine, so back in went PotC and whilst it would play this time mr macro turned up to spoil the party. so then i tried the macro hack banged in PotC again but no effect, back in went oceans 11 and still it played fine.

conclusion(s)
1 this machine is macro free for region 2 out of the box
2 it is easily de-regioned
3 it isnt macro hackable for other regions

it is possibly this which has caused some confusion regarding the macro situation, if someone applies the 2 hacks before playing a region 2 disk then playes one, they would of course think its been macro hacked when in fact it hasnt, it just never was macro protected for region 2 discs.in the first place.

my apologies for going on a bit but i thought my experiances may put this one to bed
seasonal regards to all
Danny.

Thanks Danny for your posting
I shall look to see if I have any Macro protected Region 2 Discs ( previously I have relied on a proven Region 1 disc as my test guinea-pig since some region2 discs I thought were protected subsequently proved not to be )
Do you know the origin of the `45610` hack ?; does it have any function at all ?; or is it just that it does nothing and therefore has no effect on the Region 2 settings

I have so far failed to find any reference to the 45610 version anywhere else apart from that which started this current thread. Are you able to point me in any other direction please.

I suppose you thought I`d abandoned you but no, I`ve spent all bloody Christmas with this machine and it`s hacks. I`ve come to the conclusion that basically there is no macro hack for this player. Earlier efforts have been confused by using discs that are not macro protected such as Insomnia R1 and LOR R2. When you try the real thing such as Disney which is about as protected as you can get the hacks fail in any region. Sorry but I did say this was not a great player to hack

Thanks Snafu: Your last posting fits in with the view I had already formed; nevertheless it does not seem too bad a machine in other respects.
