Hi just looking for a bit of help
I am trying to connect my dvd player to the aux2 3 or 4 inputs and i think the panasonic automaticly picks up that its a dvd player and wont let me record any dvds
is there any way i can get around this as i have changed all the neccessary settings to rgb etc the only setting that works is if i put it on to s video but it come out odd coloures. can you enlighten me on this problem.
also can annyone explain what is pre recorded DVD..macrovision or macro

in order to back up retail dvds on this machine u will need to disable macrovision and gmcs protection sonel.com sell a scart to scart lead which ive heard give excellent results i dont need one because my decca dvd player removes all copyright protection its getting impossible to find a dvd player which disables these go for the sonel scart or any other gadget look about on the web i use my pioneer dvd writer in the pc to rip dvds etc as i can keep the dts or dd 5.1 sountracks too as the panny only records in stereo.

*NOT* Quoting, just gonna do some "replying":

1) Macrovision or "macro" is an anti copying signal encrypted into retail DVD and Video to prevent Piracy

2) Yes, it can be disabled, but with an external lead, however NO company selling these will guarantee you can copy a retail movie as this is ILLEGAL, they will only guarantee it to prevent things like projectors from being affected by the macro signal.

3) Dunno about this forum, or how the mod`s react, but what you are asking to do is ILLEGAL, so how about we stop that convo right here? <grin>

Not quite. Stereo is two channel and will only activate 2 speakers (front left and right) of a Dolby Prologic receiver.
To get all working, either a DPL II amp or a "pseudo" surround mode has to be chosen.

DD 2.0 on the other hand *will* activate all Pro Logic receivers, regardless of it being DPL II or not.

But yer right that it still aint as good....bring on the day we have DD 5.1 recording capability ;)

Jimbo, agreed It is iligal to profit from DVD copies. I belive if you own a dvd you can make a backup copy for personal use. See news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3341211.stm

Long running dispute this one, and the downside to your link is it`s in reference to Norway`s laws, and to "ripping" a movie to your hard drive to watch it on Linux.

It doesn`t mention, even for Norway, about making backup copies, which to the best of my knowledge, is still illeagal in any form or circumstance.

The arguement to this is:

I have a piece of PC Software, the law and the licence agreement allow me to make a "backup" in case the original disc is ever damaged beyond use.

I have a VHS movie, the law states the same as above.

I have an Audio CD. I am allowed to make ONE digital copy from the original in case the original is damaged. (and if you digitally copy it in an audio recorder, then try to copy the copy digitally, it will respond with "copy prohibit" or similar)

I have a DVD movie. I aint allowed to make the backup, which is total rubbish and a way to get us to spend more money on damaged discs to replace them.
(Also, you may notice if you have knowledge of these things, a DVD-R/+R or RW holds 4.7 Gb, a "normal" dvd these days is a dual layer disc somewhere in the regions of 6 gb upwards.)

there are ways round it, but the quality has to drop, so it`s impossible at the moment to make a backup copy the same as the original.
Roll on BlueRay or whatever they wanna call it <grin>

I for one agree with what you say jimbo. So making bakups is not allowed as well.

X-copy by 123 studios is available but it takes 2 dvdr`s to back up one dvd. Also the company is facing leagal challenges from the film makers.

You can buy a special scart cable, which allows you to connect a VCR to DVD.
This disables macrovision.
