Old Sky Digibox - what to do with it ???

boogaloo (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 17th February 2004, 23:22

Had Sky Plus installed and wondered what to do with the old panasonic digibox. Its in perfect nick so could flog on Flea-bay, but wondered if I could use it in another room and get some free-to-view channels - if so do I need a cable from the new sky plus box or the dish outside ? And my viewing card went into the new box too.

yes it can be done, the easy way if you could get hold of another dish with a new LNB
and cable it could be done with your set up by useing a splitter connection, but may cause problems, your best bet would be to phone or E-Mail. a Satellite company, some
body like Trac satellite, who would give you advice. ( NOT SKY)they be a waste of time.

You will need a `Twin` LNB (2 outlets) in place of the single one you have now, & a second cable going to where the Panasonic box will be situated. If you choose to sell, remember Panasonic boxes are worth a mint (& I mean mint) in Spain (& to people going there) as they & the newer Grundig are the only ones that pick up all channels with few problems.

You don`t need any other LNB`s or dish`s if the Sky+ was installed by Sky.

They will already have fitted a quad LNB to your dish, so all you do is run another cable from the dish to the location of the second box.
you will need another card though, unless you just want to use it to receive the FTV channels available without a card.

Remember though, you can get a Sky "mirror" subscription, same as your Sky+ for about £10 or £15.

What are you on about Jimbo. Sky only fit single LNBs that can only use one cable, a couple of years ago I was a Satellite Installer. Sky would not put on a `QUAD` LNB` with 4 outputs for £100-00 when they can fit a single one for about £15-00. My original post is the correct answer.

Rubbish!

The Sky+ LNB is a QUAD unit which allows connection of up to either:

TWO Sky+ units;
ONE Sky+ unit and TWO other digiboxes or the same LNB can be used to feed
FOUR standard Digiboxes.

Sky+ itself has a twin LNB feed, so as a previous Satellite installer, can you explain just how to rig up even ONE Sky+ unit with a single LNB?

Your original post is WRONG, so please update your knowledge before telling someone to shell out more than they need to, or asking me "what am I on about".

And if anyone needs even further proof of the quad LNB, I`ll hang out my window and take a photograph and upload it!!

And to who I work for:
No, I don`t work for Sky. Yes I do think they get more than enough money for their services, but I didn`t say you HAD to get a mirror subscription, just that you can!
I have one for the box in the other room, and to me, it`s worth the tenner I pay for it so I don`t have to listen to any whinging about what I watch on my main unit.

PS: And I aint on Sky World, I have the £18 (or is it £20 now?) a month pack which is the same but without movies and sports.

I have a twin myself & have fitted numerous others for people with extra digiboxes in the bedroom etc. The cheapest decent Quad LNB is around £100-00 pounds & knowing SKY as I do I have never known them give anything more than they need to. Please take a pic` of your quad LNB as I would be interested to see it. If it is a Quad then that would make SKY + very usefull to me as I would put my twin in it`s place & take the Quad to Spain.
