I have a "proper" DVD player...the magnificant (if not loud) Wharfedale 750, but I also have a DVD player on the PC (WinDVD I think?) are there any better programs out there?

I want one that you can get screen captures from?

Any ideas would be much appreciated

PowerDVD (http://www.cyberlink.com.tw/english/index.asp)

WinDVD can take screen captures but only with hardware acceleration disabled. The shrotcut key is hidden somewhere in the help file.
