SCAN SC2000 FIRMWARE FOULUP?

DJ_KARTA (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 12th March 2001, 10:58

OK...

Being Mr Clever clogs and reading about all the people that have
upgraded the bios on their Scan SC2000`s I decided to give it a go...

I reflashed with several versions (from NVIS), some of which only had NTSC/MULTI output and no PAL (No good for me I`m afraid) and the final one (2.27) that I am using now will not let me change the region code...

I can only think of three reasons for this

1. I am stupid and cannot press the buttons properly (not likely)

2. This version doesnt let you change the region code

3. I`ve somehow broken it

I`ve only had the player two days so as you can imagine I am pretty
peeved off...

I started with version 2.07 so basically I would appreciate any links
to sites with different versions (2.07 would be good!) as I am fresh
out of ideas as to what to do next.

The only reason I reflashed in the first place was so I could use the
player in my bedroom though my VHS recorder into my ancient RF only
(non 60hz) TV...

Its all gone horribly wrong!

Thanks in advance for any help

It sounds like 2.27 isnt an official scan release.
The last official release,as far as i know,was 2.23-if i were you i would downgrade to 2.23 and keep it there untill the next release comes out.

2.27 is compatible with the scan and a few other players but not written specifically for the scan.

Latest official release from Scan is v2.25, but I`ve found a few probs with it already. The v2.27 (or v2.28 which is now available) from the TYT site are NOT good for the UK Scan. I put v2.28 onto mine and had the same problems (ie No PAL - multi or NTSC only and NO REGION FREE).

Stick with v2.23 for the moment as it`s stable and you only miss SVCD and the first 2 seconds of some MP3`s skipped if they are encoded with MMJB.

Why would you stand up for Bear, Mr.Ironduke? Or are you one and the same?

(Ironduke == Bear)

OK... thanks for the help and info guys... I will give 2.23 a whirl and
let you know what happens...

I was a little surprised to see no readme file in the distribution
of the FW files...

It looks like I have been a bit of a lab rat here...

Maybe it would be an idea to include a little readme in the .zip
of the FW files?

thanks again for all the help guys...
