HDTV

Anyone care to enlighten me ?
I`m always planning my next move and,at the moment, that would be spending a small fortune on a Plasma or LCD TV.
However,HDTV intrigues me and I`m more than willing to hold on for as much as 2 years before upgrading if it means `saving` money in the long run.
I would hate to spend 2K+ on a Plasma/LCD TV only for HDTV to overtake it within a couple of years !

If you are going to take the plunge make sure it is Hi Def compatible or you will regret it.

Have you seen high def running? It is stunning. Thats all I can say.

Sky tv have announced HIDEF broadcasts for 2006 which is brilliant news.HIDEF is stunning. But i think for europe we will have to pay a lot for premium channels.Try and go for an xga model ie 1366 x 768 resolution.

I`m as much a gadget freak as anybody else, but I have to say IMHO it`s really not worth going over to new technologies just yet. I`d say wait at least a couple of years before investing in plasma or LCD while the bugs are ironed out and the price starts to drop. The premium you pay for HD compatibility isn`t (again IMHO) currently worth it because there just aren`t any HD sources in the UK. Sky are just talking about HD broadcasts (probably at a premium), the BBC are sitting on the fence. You`ll get a better picture off your DVD on an HD-TV, but it isn`t proper HD, it`s extrapolated HD from an SD source. I`ve seen it and it looks like one of those Paintshop filters. And of course there`s no guarantee HD-DVD or Blu-ray are going to take off, even in the States.

Give it two or three years and save up for a really good set, or spend £500 on a quality SD widescreen set as a stop-gap `cause at the moment CRT still offers the best performance against price.

Apart from Euro 1080 that is now up and will be running any day.

Euro 1080? Like that`s going to encourage anyone to splash out two grand on a plasma screen, a new satellite receiver and a CAC. ;)

The only thing that`s going to get HDTV going in this country is if Sky launches a suite of channels in HD and the manufacturers subsidise sales. The BBC should be looking at HD over cable/satellite rather than buggering around with Freeview and the current digital stuff. The Government`s happy to sit on the fence and bang on about "digital" services and a "switchover" that`s going to have us watching crappy low-budget channels in lower quality than analogue ever was.
